Vinyl Application Guide – Fitting Instructions
Sheet vinyl or vinyl decals/lettering can be applied by either a wet method or dry method. Generally, the easiest form of application is the wet method and is chosen because it allows movement of the vinyl on the application surface, allows easier removal of air bubbles and reduces risk of creasing.
The method is as follows:
You need: spray type bottle filled with a mixture of a few drops of washing up liquid and water, an application squeegee, preferably with a felt edge and a craft knife.
1. The application surface must be completely clean. You need to remove any dirt / wax / polish that is on the surface. An alcohol based cleaner is ideal. Any form of dirt/dust/polish left on the application surface will prevent the vinyl being applied properly.
2. Peel off the paper backing from the vinyl sheet.
3. Generously spray the STICKY side of the vinyl sheet AND the application surface with the mixture of water and washing up liquid.
4. Place the vinyl into position on the application surface. The water and washing up liquid mixture will allow you time to slide the vinyl/graphics into the correct position.
When you are happy with the positioning, hold one end of the vinyl sheet and with the squeegee, slowly ‘stroke’ the vinyl from the centre outwards. This should push most of the water mix out from under the vinyl/graphics. It is better if the non sticky side of the vinyl is also wetted during this process to help avoid any scratching or marking from the squeegee.
Allow the vinyl to dry for about 24 hours to ensure best bonding.
What do we mean by Lean?
We’re referring to working smarter not harder. By having a workforce that thinks in a smart (lean) way. By having a facility that supports a visual workplace. By having a work force that actively seeks to eliminates the 7 deadly wastes on a daily basis.
The 5S Superstore is here to not only help you on your voyage to become a lean manufacturing facility, but to help you maintain your lean culture by providing you with the necessary tools.
Our range of high quality Louvre and Perforated Panel based tool and part storage solutions deploy to your chosen value stream or manufacturing cell instantly. Used throughout all industries and facilities including Warehouses, Manufacturing Plants, Food and Beverage, Automotive Lines and Aerospace Manufacturing.
Lean manufacturing or lean production, often simply “lean”, is a systematic method for the elimination of waste (“Muda”) within a manufacturing system.
Lean also takes into account waste created through overburden (“Muri”) and waste created through unevenness in work loads (“Mura”). Working from the perspective of the client who consumes a product or service, “value” is any action or process that a customer would be willing to pay for.
Lean manufacturing makes obvious what adds value, by reducing everything else (which not adding value). This management philosophy is derived mostly from the Toyota Production System (TPS) and identified as “lean” only in the 1990s. TPS is renowned for its focus on reduction of the original Toyota seven wastes to improve overall customer value, but there are varying perspectives on how this is best achieved. The steady growth of Toyota, from a small company to the world’s largest automaker, has focused attention on how it has achieved this success.
